Graph Editor Expand/Collapse Channels collapsing happens on all hierarchy levels at once [Outliner doesnt do this, expanding is also one step at a time] #80753

System Information
Operating system: Mac 10.15
Graphics card:

Blender Version
Broken: 2.90.0
Worked: never

Short description of error
(This might be considered a feature request, it would be consistent with the Outliner though)
In the Graph Editor when working on the left panel and use '+'/'-' keys on Numpad, the '+' is working well, it opens the collapse levels one each time, but the '-' is collapse all the level in one time. It is not convenient when having lots of things in this panel.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

One thing to note: the All checkbox is not related to all hierarchy levels it is related to all selected channels (selected ones are the ones being marked yellowish when you click on the channel)

This is actually working fine as far as I can see:
#80753.webm

So asking for the Collapse Channels operator to do one hierarchy level at a time would probably be considered a feature request (it would be consistent with the Outliner and should probably happen at some point though)

Note there is a bug however (you can run into the situation that the Expand Channels operator does not expand even selected channels anymore):
#80753.blend

  • Open above .blend
  • Collapse Channels, in the Redo Last Operation panel turn OFF All
  • Expand Channels, in the Redo Last Operation panel turn OFF All
  • Collapse Channels again, in the Redo Last Operation panel turn ON All again
  • Expand Channels will not expand to selected channel anymore

I see your point about the All checkbox.
The issue I see is the one step to collapse all Levels in the side panel, compare to multiple to Expends them. when I did the Collapse using '-' number key it just closed all levels and '+' expends them gradually, which is better... at least for my opinion.

I agree, we should me more consistent "-" should collapse one level, "+" should expand one level

thank you.

thank you.

no need to thank me, i'm glad you brought it up is some of those thing you struggle enough with that you end up not using the feature, but it would be much better if it worked correctly.

Will split of the "bug-part" into a separate report [since this just makes it complicated to handle the "request" here]

Edit: it is #81135 (Graph Editor Expand/Collapse Channels collapsing issue)
