Extrude manifold still not working well #81098

Short description of error
Extrude manifold easily creates overlapping faces and edges

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Create a cube or use the default cube in the scene.
  2. Subdivide the cube once.
  3. Now select one of the polys on the top of the cube, activate extrude manifold and extrude down 3/4 of the way.
  4. Now on one of the two sides of the part that you extruded down, extrude that part across the middle divider
  5. At this point, you should have a face that is not removed as you move past it and you're left with faces sticking out past your extrusion.Manifold.blend

There is already a task for this reported, see #80440 (Extrude manifold creates non manifold geometry).

Note this was closed as invalid for now, but please read through that post to understand the reasoning (part of it is that improvements are being workde on in #75913 (New tool to add and subtract prismatic volumes)).
Having this closed is debatable [I dont fully agree either, see my comments there], but decisions have to be made and it would be good to keep the discussion in one task rather than multiple tasks.

So I will merge this report with #80440, feel free to comment there if there is something new to contribute.
