Mesh becomes uneditable in 2.9. Vertices can not be selected #81114

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: Geforce Cards

Blender Version
Broken: 2.9
Worked: 2.83

Short description of error

Verts can not be selected, at weird intervals verts will randomly vanish. Object can be selected in face and edge select mode but you can not actually affect the geo. If you look at the stats, blender even considers 0 verts selected.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

I wish I could tell you, this happens at odd intervals and the only consistency is that it has happened in every single 2.9 file I have.

Here is the latest geometry error in a blend file. GeoError.blend

Here is also a screen shot of the error with some stats.

It seems some of your geometry is hidden Try entering edit mode on the objects your having issues with and unhide hidden features by pressing ALT + H or selecting the Mesh -> Show/Hide - > Reveal Hidden menu at the top of the 3D viewport. Hopefully this helps out in the mean time.

This would suggest that you're hiding parts of the mesh by pressing the H key while working. However, that doesn't explain why it only occurs in Blender 2.90. Also from playing around with the file you gave us, it seems the behavior you're experiencing is different from standard hiding.

So if you could figure out exactly what's causing the issue and the exact steps to reproduce it, that would be useful

Think this was caused by the following bug #80771 (Mode switching hides vertices in Edit mode (Weight paint / Sculpt mode --> Edit mode)) or #80801 (jumping from sculptmode to edit mode automatically hide certain vertex).
Since these are fixed in 2.91, it should not happen again there, in 2.90, remember to unhide {key Alt H} in sculpt mode, then you should be fine.

So effectively, this is a duplicate of #80771, will merge these reports.
