Short description of error
Once Blender is installed via Steam .blend files are not automatically associated with Blender. When you associate .blend-files manually with Blender the association is broken the next time Blender updates.
It is possible for Steam installs to associate file extensions: multiple other programs do associate some files (for example, CSGO associates .sav files with itself)
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Install Blender via Steam (without having ever installed Blender via the blender.org installer).
After installing .blend files are not associated with Blender.
When you associate .blend-files manually with Blender the association is broken the next time Blender updates.
