Tablet no longer working correctly in Sculpting - Blender 2.92 #82718

System Information
Operating system: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6gig

Blender Version
Broken: 2.92.0 Alpha - 2020-11-13
Worked: 2.91 and earlier versions -

I can report that the pen pressure from my Wacom Intuos III tablet is not working for Sculpting in Blender 2.92.
If I start a new scene in Sculpt and try to use a brush, the stylus produces single 'blips' of brush activity, then freezes after a single brush action iteration (leaving something like a little 'bump', not making anything like a continuous stroke. This behavior occurs with each attempt at a brush stroke.
The mouse works as expected in Sculpting, unless the one attempts to use the tablet and stylus. Once the tablet starts producing faulty behavior, the mouse, too, will no longer function correctly in Sculpting.
Once these errors occur, making a new scene in Blender does not fix the situation. It is necessary to quit the program and restart in order for (even) the mouse to work properly in Sculpting.

Both mouse and tablet are working perfectly in all versions of Blender 2.91, 2.83 and earlier

Note: The tablet DID work correctly in version 2.92.0 alpha before the version from November 5 (if I recall correctly)

;;;;;;;;;;;

Extra info: I have since updated my Wacom tablet drivers, replacing version 6.3.14-1 with the newer version 6.3.15-3

Using the tablet with the updated drivers does not fix the problem with the tablet stylus which still continues to produces single 'blips' instead of continuous strokes.
There is one important difference with the updated driver. The bad tablet performance is no longer affecting the mouse, so that now, if I first use the tablet (which freezes with each brush stroke) the mouse remains operational and produces correct results. In addition, if one creates a new Sculpt scene, the mouse continues to function as expected.

Nicholas, here is the link:

https://developer.blender.org/P1771

As I noted on the bottom of the pasted console contents, the freezing of the tablet stylus did not seem to produce any console output, error messages or whatever.

Hi @ignatz @PrototypeNM1
I've spend 3 hours sculpting with the previous daily build without any issue, and after installing the one from today, I have the same issue than you with WinTab ( Which is the most convenient for me)

I hope it could be solve soon,

Thanks

Hi @PrototypeNM1 I've tried your build, here is the past of the console log.

https://developer.blender.org/P1799

I don't if you will find what you need, Everything was really slow, ( 2 / 3 FPS ) but I didn't had the same issue than before apparently

Thanks a lot

Can you try the updated build at the same link as before? If the issue isn't fixed upload the log again.

@ignatz did you restart your computer or wintab driver in the last couple days?

This might seem a weird question but I haven't changed since your last log, and the issue in the log was that packets were being reported a second prior to when they were received by Blender. I'm curious if the driver itself had just become desynced with the system time.

If memory serves, I have turned my computer on and off at least three or four times during the last week.
Would this not have had the effect of restarting the wintab driver?
Otherwise, I have done nothing more than already reported.
I am sorry that I cannot offer anything more helpful at this time.

Some additional confusion (to me, anyway)...

I just retested the debug version I downloaded (2020-11-16 hash: b802479a4b70).
My tablet is now also working there in an expected and normal way. Totally unexpected.

Honestly, I cannot for the life of me figure out what could have changed on my system. ???

But if it works, I can live with it. ;-)

If had the same with a build from 2020-15-11, just downloaded the latest version from 2020-23-11 (2.92 Alpha) and it works again.

That backs up my theory that the Wintab reported time and the system time had become desynchronized, a restart allowed them. to resync.

If the issue returns let me know. I have a patch I'd like to test for the above theory.

@PrototypeNM1 Just had the same problem show up again.

Blender 2.92alpha 2020-11-27 hash: fbdf1af355

The tablet and stylus did not work. Just like before. The mouse worked perfectly.
I did a total shutdown and reboot as you suggested. This solved the problem for the tablet with Blender 2.92 alpha
Please note that despite the stylus/tablet problems with Blender 2.92, there were absolute NO problems with earlier versions of Blender, whether I rebooted or not.

I politely suggest that some important tablet setting or input was inadvertently changed in the new Blender 2.92 code.

Wintab was intentionally changed as it was rewritten to improve drawing, e.g. grease pencil no longer has jagged lines. Working through these bugs is part of the process.

Next time you have the same bug do not restart your system; let me know it's back so that we can test the fix that I have not yet added to nightly builds.

@PrototypeNM1 The problem has returned.

Just a suspicion,, but I'm thinking that this 'out of sync' condition comes into existence if/when the operating system goes in and out of hibernation state.

This should be resolved by 3a1d1aaa86, could you verify the issue is resolved in nightly?

Nicholas, this latest build is working well for me.

At the same time I must confess that there may be other issues on my system that are somehow connected with the hibernation state as I mentioned (above). To that end I have modified the 'Power Options' on my system to prevent it ever going into the hibernation state. I believe this will effectively prevent the problem of the tablet hesitations and freezing in Blender from occuring, since the tablet has always seemed to work correctly with Blender when the system is first booted up.

No need to change your system. The problem is that whatever mechanism your Wintab driver was using to keep track of time was different from Blender. The impact was broader than just your system, several people reported similar problems without hibernating their system.

The changes I introduced should synchronize the clocks and should be a more robust fix.

Hi! i had this problem with sculpting mode in blender and my Kanvas huion 22 tablet, I just desintalled the huion tablet app and now it works fine.
