System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 457.30

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.92.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2020-11-09 22:42, hash: b5d310b569
Also tried in latest 2.91

Short description of error
DoF seem to fail when a particle object moves in front of a background object.
The out of focus particle seems to appear in focus when it passes by an focused object?
Not sure if limitation of eevee but cycles renders fine.

Tried playing with blend modes on the particle and objects but not much changed.dof eevee.blend

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Attched blend file..
Press play and watch particles move in front of cubes.

Are you referring to the sharper looking core of the particle?

I am seeing a problem.
But I'm not sure if it's the same problem as described:

And I'm not sure if this is related to the particle system. The .blend file can probably be simplified.

I didn't notice Mano had a whole other issue, weird.

In any case, the people working on EEVEE are aware of the artifacts present with its Depth of Field, and a refactor is planned for Some Time In The Future in #68468.

In #68468, Clément Foucault wrote:
The current depth of field implementation is really slow, [has artifacts and unpredictable performance].
The goal would be to implement something around the lines of UE4's Depth of Field.

So... Known Issue?
