Dual monitor on separate graphics card UI freezing when swithing workspace #83320

Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: NVidia GeForce RTX 2070 ( x2 cards )

Broken: 2.91.0, Hash: 0f45cab862, master
Worked: 2.90.1

UI freezes when switching to Movie Clip Editor when Blender is on second screen.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. New project (general)
  2. Move Blender to second screen
  3. Switch from "3D Viewport" to "Movie Clip Editor".

Note: This is happening in "Layout" workspace. Tested "Compositing" workspace and issue does not occur. Did not test all other workspaces.
Update: Updated to the latest NVIDIA Studio Driver (457.30) and that didn't solve the problem.

Can't reproduce this.

There is report describing problem when multiple monitors are plugged into multiple GPU's. It is quite different problem, but I would like to check if you have both monitors plugged in one GPU card.

Nope, each monitor is plugged into its own GPU card.

Randomly clicking right now, and I found some new details. It seems that it's just the "Layout" workspace that gets frozen for 20-30 seconds or so. Switching workspaces works. After about 30 seconds, I can also switch back to Layout workspace and I have the Movie Clip Editor active.

Trying to perform the same steps puts me through another 30 seconds of UI freeze.

Let me know what additional info I can provide.

Thanks for information.

With monitor plugged in own card was actually problematic case. Can you check if this happens when you plug monitors in one card? It's not really a solution, but it's good to know if this helps.

I'm currently looking for a cable so that I can test with both monitors plugged into 1 GPU.
I will find a displayport cable and test this until no late than next week (maybe sooner).
It's just an FYI so that you know I haven't forgotten about this.

Thanks for checking I will change status, because I don't have 2 GPUs so I won't be able to reproduce anyway. Perhaps we could merge these problems, but it's hard to say if it's necessary same problem.

Okay, found an extra cable today and tested: both monitors plugged into 1 GPU -> problem gone. Tried a few times just to be sure and no freeze occurred.
As soon as I plugged back to the previous setup (each monitor to a different GPU), then the problem is back again.

The good part is: I can still access the Movie Clip Editor, I just have to do it in a different workspace (Compositing workspace for example).

Let me know if further details are needed.

Thanks!

Thank you for checking this, I think this will be caused by same issue as #62651, so I will merge. Unfortunately this is long standing issue with no fix so far.
