X-Ray malfunction #83369

System Information
Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Graphics card: Radeon RX 580 Series

Blender Version
Broken: 2.91
Worked: 2.90

When I went to change the viewport display color and added some transparency for an individual piece and then entered into X-Ray mode, it became a jumbled mess of colors like it had glitched out really bad. Once I returned it to full opacity, it worked fine again. This seems to only happen occasionally as I just reproduced the steps on a new file and it worked fine. The file included seems to have issues in general, from extremely long loading times to the x-ray issue. Every other file I have seems to work fine.

There have been various reports of rendering issues with AMD GPUs in Blender after driver update 20.11.2. Are you able to try downgrading your GPU drivers to see if it helps?

This was not a rendering issue, unless you're talking about the viewport display. This happened while I was working on the project, not while I was rendering it. It was on solid mode. I am not familiar with how to downgrade my GPU driver, but I can look into it. What would downgrading do? Would there be a decrease in performance?

The viewport counts as rendering, so does solid mode. As for downgrading your GPU, follow these steps to do so:

  1. Go to the AMD "previous drivers" support site for your GPU: https://www.amd.com/en/support/previous-drivers/graphics/radeon-500-series/radeon-rx-500-series/radeon-rx-580
  2. Navigate to the Windows 10 64bit section, expand it and look for a version like 20.10.1.
  3. Download and install this driver version and test Blender again.

You may experience a decrease in performance when downgrading GPU drivers, however this is uncommon in most cases.

I'm using the AMD Recommended 20.9.1 drivers on a Radeon R9 380 and the Dec 6 daily build of blender and also having this issue in a file that contains 2 no-material cubes with one or both of them set to "In Front".

I think this is indeed duplicate of #83022

Can't confirm for sure though because I can't reproduce.
