System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 460.89

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.91.0, branch: master, commit date: 2020-11-25 08:34, hash: 0f45cab862
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
I've finally found the consistent behavior of crashes

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
It happens when while I'm working in Material Preview mode, then switching to Isolated mode + Edit mode (10-15 minutes working), then go back from Isolated mode... and all materials starting to reload, then a few minutes (or even seconds) and crash

Does the crash occur with CPU too?
Are you using CUDA or Optix to render with GPU?

Also the file is too big. Files over 100 MB are not suitable for a bug report.
Normally .blend files can be simplified by removing most objects and disabling settings, until the problem reveals itself more clearly.

I'm using Optix, and I haven't try CPU render, but I suspect it doesn't matter because it crashes without trying to render.
My apologies for the large file, although it the smallest one that I have. Also, it revealing more as the scene become bigger, so it was clearer to find out the behavior.
I've been trying to catch this crash since 2.91 released, please don't judge me

I have the same behavior when exiting Local View. Cant figure it out what cause this, maybe because Viewport Shading - Color set to Texture?
Now before exiting Local View I always save project...

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 457.51

Blender file size only 80mb.
Object with texture is about 600-700 triangles 3d scanned object and I use it as reference.
I use Local View to isolate part of repoto object then exit from Local View, 3d scanned object appears and after 2-3 sec - crash, not every time, but after 1-2-3 hours of work.

I'll try to use other Viewport Shading - Color Type and report again if it cause crashes.

Added: no, regardless of Color Type, crash after exiting Local View after 30 minutes of working...
I'm always working in Viewport Shading - Solid Mode.

I've turned off the Measurelt addon and crashes stopped. Eugene, do you use one too?

@V0vi no, I don't use it, disabled since 2.90.
I'll try to turn off the other one by one.

In the conclusion of the last week, I can say that crashes don't stop at all but acquired a new look. It just occasionally and unsystematically happens. I'll continue to monitor if there is a difference in other scenes.

@V0vi do you have account on blenderartists.org so I could PM to you?

Can someone familiar with Viewport rendering process answer this question:

When exiting from "Local View", texture on objects that were hidden are reboot? And if yes it not depend what "Viewport Shading (Solid) - Color" mode is selected?

Because I have no crashes after I relocate my 3d scanned object to a separate Collection and disable this collection (checkbox disabled).
3d scanned object have a single texture 8k x 8k.

Please confirm if upgrading blender version to [2.93LTS ]] or [ https:*builder.blender.org/download/daily/ | fresh builds fixes the crash.

I've turned off the Measurelt addon and crashes stopped

So can we close the task assuming the crash is already fixed? or may be separate report you can create if crash is due to an add-on :)

Also: please attach crash logs:

  • open blender_debug_log (located in same directory where blender.exe is)
  • Reproduce crash then in windows explorer two files will be visible. paste them here
  • Open blender_debug_output from these two files, you will find the path of crash.txt.
  • Find crash.txt at C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Local\Temp\ and attach it here

(For more information, refer: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/2.93/troubleshooting/crash.html#windows)

Yes, in new 2.93 it disappeared. There are still some crashes, but definitely much rarely and I don't know how to describe in which circumstances they happen. I'm happy I can work productively. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for checking. You can create a new report to elaborate these crashes (if they are unrelated to the one mentioned here)

Closing the ticket.
