Hair Dynamics Stretching to Mesh #85299

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 OS Build 18363.1316
Graphics card: RTX 2070

Blender Version
2.91.2

Short description of error
Whenever I try to simulate hair dynamics on the tail or chest fur, they stretch to the original position of the rig. I can't get them to simulate correctly.
However, the cheek fur and whiskers simulate fine. I've checked the modifier stack and the normals, everything appears fine.
I have read elsewhere to switch to shade flat or to play the animation without baking it first, but none of this works.
I can't find a fix that works for me anywhere.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • open attached file or:
  • Model character
  • Parent to armature
  • Add hair particles
  • Edit hair particles
  • Add density vertex group
  • Simulate hair dynamics

That is actually the weirdest thing, the file that I uploaded is the one I recorded the video in. Did you change any settings by chance? (I've heard it can be a graphics card issue but I'm not sure)

Do you have hair dynamics turned on? It doesn't look like the hair is moving.

I can confirm the problem and edit the description.

I confirmed it as a bug, but I'm not sure. the file may be corrupted.

It does it on some of my other models as well, not just this one, but some work fine even though I set it up the exact same way.

Can't tell what is happening here, but particles are not maintained, so will mark this a known issue.
