Graphics card: GeForce RTX 3070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 461.40
Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.92.0 Beta, branch: master, commit date: 2021-02-12 16:44, hash:

Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)
Short description of error
If you have a smoke/fire simulation and the playhead is outside of the cache range of the smoke domain. The 3D viewport and the render shows glitches in the domain.
Also the same glitch happens in 2.9.2

Mind sharing an example .blend file?
(this just ensures we are all on the same page)
Yeah, here you go. The file is very simple I just went to Quick Effects > Quick Smoke. and put a sky texture node on the World.

Can confirm.

i confirm, has also get this in blender 3.5 in render
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19044-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 512.15
Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.5.0, branch: blender-v3.5-release, commit date: 2023-03-29 02:56, hash:
1be25cfff1
Happens to me in 3.5.1 too. I don't really get that nobody cares about this, but it keeps happening for at least the last two years for me.
The glitch and assert seem to be fixed. The Cycles error
unexpected smoke volume resolution
seems to be unrelated: it just cannot find the "temperature" grid, and the message is a bit confusing. Closing this report.
