System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1070 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 460.79

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.93.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2021-02-25 05:34, hash: 0e1c6a29cb

  • version: 2.92.0, branch: master, commit date: 2021-02-24 16:25, hash: 02948a2cab
    Worked: never

Short description of error
When adding a driver on an NLA animated time strip value, the value does not turn purple, and cannot be remove.
Don't know if it's related or not, but you also cannot delete/clear keyframes on that particular value aswell. Should i do another bug report ?

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
(see video attached)
animate the default cube (example : revolution on Z axis, from frame 1 to 250)
create an empty, add a custom property, animate that property
copy the custom property as a new driver
go to the NLA, push down the cube action, go to it's strip option and check "animated time strips"
paste the driver on the "animated time strips" value

NLA control curves seem to get special handling in BKE_fcurve_find_by_rna_context_ui

See the following two comments:

/* Special case for NLA Control Curves... */
/* Set the special flag, since it cannot be a normal action/driver
     * if we've been told to start looking here...
     */

This then has to mentioned consequences (e.g. the button never receiving the UI_BUT_DRIVEN flag)

Havent dug further, but it seems at least inconsistent that you can add a driver, it is sort of evaluated properly, but that does not reflect in the UI.
If it is not supposed to be supported, I guess it would be good to prevent adding drivers in the first place.
