Shrinkwrap modifier before GN-modifier causes mem spike #89163

24 gb ram ddr3, dual xeon 5670
Operating system:Win 10
Graphics card: gtx780

Blender Version
Broken: 2.93.0 LTS
Worked: 2.92

Short description of error
Rendering enabling the Shrinkwrap modifier before GN-modifier makes the mem usage explode (on my machine it reports around 30 gb) and freezes/probably starts to pagefile.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • (Monitor memory usage)
  • Open attached file
  • Press F12 to render (note spikes in memory usage that easily reach 11GB)
  • Disable the "Shrinkwrap" modifier
  • Press F12 to render (Task manager might be 1-2 gb, and peak ram usage in render window might be like 300mb)

jea im normally linking in the vegitation, but to be able to send one file , I had to "make local" the vegitation collection.

A 1 gb file?

That's way large. file around 100mb is fine. That's why I always mention to attach a "simple" file.

How to reproduce the problem in the attached file. Enabling and disabling the modifier doesn't change memory that much.

I can confirm the memory usage spikes, but I couldn't find the source of the problem (I'm having issues with the latest Visual Studio update).
Maybe it's a limitation, but I'm confirming it as a bug for now.

Any progress? Not that it probably matters but the problem persists in latest 2.93.1 release also.
