Setting Roughness to zero (0) breaks shader in eevee #89550

Short description of error
[whenever I set the roughness value of the principled bsdf shader to 0 while in eevee or lookdev mode, the object becomes black. Increasing the roughness to a value >= 0.004 works and this has been my workaround till recently when it broke a nodegroup that I couldn't find what was affecting the roughness value]

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Launch blender,
  • switch to the shading tab
  • the glossy hdri preview is black.
  • change roughness of principled shader to 0,
  • object becomes black no matter if its metallic or not.
