System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 Home (21H1)
Graphics card: NVidida GTX 1080

Blender Version
Broken: (example: 2.80, edbf15d3c0, master, 2018-11-28, as found on the splash screen)
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)
Version 2.9.1 and Version 2.9.3. Seemed to work on Blender 2.9.0

Short description of error
I've created a Blender scene containing a spaceship with properties that can be changed via the GUI with drivers. I can change the angle of parts on the ship and the material to change the engines glow color and intensities from the GUI.

If I work directly in the file, it work fine. If I link the file inside another scene, only the parts are moving, any attempt now to change the material fail, with the GUI or going directly in the linked material (should be overriden). I can rotate the bone, but nothing change or update on the material.

When I've tried it, I was using Blender 2.9.0, and if I remember well, it seemed to work (change material color and light intensity). In the material editor, I still can see the driver applied to them, but it's impossible to change the value, nor by the driver or directly.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).
Here is a screen: image.png. It's showing the ship part and the material that are driven. If I work directly on the ship file, there is no issues with everything. I can move|rotate parts and change the material. Once it's linked, only the material is not working.

Any hint on what is causing this and is this resolvable or is it truly a bug. I'm not too accustomed on using the overrides...

This is a known issue and is already listed in #55365 (Blender development todo list -- Animation System)

"New dependency graph for all datablocks (Specially for all kind of material and texture datablocks, ie: Stucci parameters)"

Thanks for the info @mano-wii ! I'll watch the issue on #55365.
