@zanqdo - Could you flesh out these instructions a bit more?

For example how is "File Preview Type" set to?

I am only able to recreate this if "File Preview Type" is set to "Screenshot" while using a File Browser set to "Maximized Area". When "File Preview Type" is set to "Auto" I only see this is the scene has no camera.

It's set to screenshot. I'm sorry I'm not familiar with all of this changes.

@ideasman42 - sorry to bug you...

Here we have File Browser of AREA_FLAG_STACKED_FULLSCREEN. In wm_handler_fileselect_do we do call ED_screen_full_prevspace to restore out of that before calling the exec. So the areas are restored and the File Browser is gone but it still looks the same at the time of the exec. But not seeing a way to force an update there. The usual suspects of WM_redraw_windows, ED_screen_ensure_updated, ED_screen_refresh, ED_screen_change, etc don't do the trick.

Without being able to update the window to reflect the current state, I could test for this and force rendering instead, but not seeing a way since this is after ED_screen_full_prevspace and so all evidence of the File Browser and the temporary area are gone by then. Can't really just use user preference for USER_TEMP_SPACE_DISPLAY_FULLSCREEN since that would also affect just hitting Ctrl-S.
