I can't reproduce this issue. I can see that pressing ctrl+r wipes all cached images. Issue could possibly happen if you have disk cache enabled, Check if that is the case in Preferences > System > Video Sequencer.

Also please check if this happens with latest alpha build from https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/
If there are problems in alpha please clarify steps to reproduce.

That is exactly the situation. The disk cache doesn't clear on close (I noticed in a recent edit that if I manually go and delete the specific project's frames, it's fresh), so it seems to hold the frames (even after close) and refuses to change except under a few circumstances (like adding a new image or video strip over everything) - even when you render and change info (like replacing an image source) it still holds the old frames. I'll try it in the new alpha as well to confirm.

Unfortunately, I can't test it with alpha...

"The program can't start because api-ms-win-shcore-scaling-l1-1-1.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

But, you can enable the disk cache and set playback mode to play every frame after importing a sequence or a proper length image sequence, say 250 frames+. Then play it through to cache the frames, now replace those frames (not delete, but replace) and it should be stuck even into the render (this happened with my most recent edit that's not uploaded yet). This sticking sometimes happens even if you move the sequence around. Primarily this happens if it only cached some frames of that sequence, then the fresher frames show up to flicker between the old ones. You might be finding it hard to reproduce because you may have a much better setup than me (which is not hard, LOL).

I think for now, I'll just disable disk cache, because it makes my edits and final renders unreliable; blender is my only video editor, for reference:

If you need more info, let me know!

Right, so I understand it as you did use disk cache, then that is likely suspect. Disk cache doesn't support overwriting data, only write in sequence. I will try to reproduce the issue with disk cache then.

Perfect description of the problem, lol. Thank you!

I can reproduce issue, but this seems to be because splitting with shift+K does change strip output image, which shouldn't happen. After "refresh" image is OK, but refresh doesn't wipe disk cache.

Richard Antalik changed title from VSE: "Refresh All" does nothing on image sequences to Splitting strips will change image output 2021-11-29 08:20:32 +01:00

And that is part of the issue. Because the cache doesn't update or change, it holds those frames and renders what it held, not edited. I also can't go around Shift+K'ing everything to try and get a new result, LOL.

For the moment, I'll turn it off. Use this to remind me after Blender 3 comes out (or commits) and I'll be happy to see if it still does the same thing!
Always happy to help!

Thank you! :D
