Copy/Pasting Instance Collection #93872

System Information
Operating system: MacOS Mojave Version 10.14.6 iMac 2017
Graphics card: Radeon Pro Vega 64 16GB

Blender Version
Broken: 3.0.0 f1cca30557, master

Short description of error

When you copy/paste an instance collection it duplicates the instance AND duplicates all the objects separately.

In prior Blender versions the copy/pate of an instance collection would ONLY create a new instance of the collection.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

This is same as previous report and #93757 so I will close as duplicate.

I do not believe this is the same issue as #93757.

No linking required or new scene required. Not seeing objects outside of the collection being copied. Only happens when you copy/paste an instance collection.

  1. You should only get a new instance when you copy paste an instance collection. (Prior Blender behavior)

  2. Instead you get a new instance and another copy of the real objects that makeup that instance.

Internally copy function will create temporary .blend file that serves as "clipboard", when you paste, content of this blend file will be appended pretty much as if you did that manually.

Please try it.

Instance a collection of two cubes. Copy/Paste the instance collection. You get 4 cubes instead of just the 2 cube instance.

This behavior is completely new and/or is a bug of 3.0

I tried it - it's exactly same behavior as in report #93757, that's why I merged it. If issue persists after that report is resolved, this can be reopened, but I think this is same issue.

This is indeed not the same issue, since linking and copy/paste are two different things...
