UV Editor has no 'View Overlay' Theme option #93998

Short description of error
The UV Editor theme does not have a View Overlay option. So the color of the scale operation widget, for example, can only be edited in the 3D View.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Go to Preferences > Themes > 3D Viewport and change the color in View Overlay
  • In the 3D View press S - see the color of the widget
  • In the UV Editor press S - compare the color

This seems to have a bit of history:

  • blender versions up to and including 2.83 worked correctly here (Viewport Overlay color was used for scaling arrow indicator)
  • blender versions 2.90, 2.91, 2.92, 2.93, 3.0 used something else (black in my case)
  • in blender master, this changed again with c641107c95

Since this is not really a recent regression, I dont think it would necessarily be in 3.0.1
OTOH, it does not sound harmful, @JulianEisel : what do you think?

The overlay color issue seems to be solved, so closing this report. If the line width is still an issue, better to handle that as a new report (it's a separate issue).

You need to use your own iMac. Do not use Windows please.

Multiple problems are being discussed here, it's not clear to me what's working now and what isn't.

  • Do I understand it correctly now that the 3D view overlay color is fixed, but not the UV editor one? Seems like there's simply no Viewport Overlay color theme setting like in the 3D view there.
  • The other issue is the line width. On Linux that works fine for me, but I see that on macOS it doesn't indeed. Our line-width workaround for macOS doesn't seem to be supported by the dashed line shader (GPU_SHADER_3D_LINE_DASHED_UNIFORM_COLOR). How hard would that be to support @fclem?

Linux is a WINDOWS and DOS with IBM only.

This is a known issue on Mac systems and already discussed at #89200 (Research: refactor dotted/dashed lines to support line width).

There's no simple solution.

But this is something the Eevee and Viewport team is aware of and will certainly work on an alternative.

I'm going to close this report since there's another task in the developers task stack.

Ah, now I understood. I read the comments mentioning the other problem (dashed line width) and ended up thinking you were referring to this one. But I can confirm that, unlike the 3D View, the UV editor doesn't have an option in Themes to change the cursor color of the Scale operation.
