GPU subdivision does not support wireframe subdivision (no faces) #94729

Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19043-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 with Max-Q Design/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 497.29

Broken: version: 3.1.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2022-01-06 23:21, hash: e6ca0b33e9

Short description of error
Normally you can subdivide a wire mesh. For example a square with no filling face to create a sort of circle.
It appears the GPU subdivision code doesn't support this case yet

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Subsurf Wire.blend
With GPU Subdivision OFF it will look like this

But with GPU Subdivision enabled it turns back to a square
