System Information
Operating system: macOS Monterey version 12.1
Graphics card: m1

Blender Version
Broken: 3.0 Apple Silicon version
Worked: None

Short description of error
Viewport encounter low fps when use scaled resolution on Mac. This problem only occurs when use the middle two level of resolution. Weird, huh?
Only happens with an external monitor, 4k, maybe. The built-in display is fine.

update: I tried Photoshop and it has the same issue. If the higher scaled option means more gpu power consumption, then I'm OK with it. The problem is why the highest option works smoothly like butter?

System Information
Operating system: macOS 11.4 Beta (20F5046g)
Graphics card: Radeon Pro Vega 20

Blender Version
Broken: 2.92 (starting from 2.83)
Worked: 2.82

I tested all available resolutions but didn't notice any difference when navigating in the viewport.

Do I need to connect to an external monitor?
Please try the latest daily build: https://builder.blender.org/download/

Thanks for the testing.
The problem happened on external 4k monitor (Dell u2720qm). Try rotate the viewport, the default scene with a single cube is laggy enough to notice.

The built-in display is ok.

I found that macOS in some cases warns that "Using a scaled resolution may affect performance",
and you can find a lot of discussions about it on the internet. So it looks like a feature of macOS.

As mentioned before, performance penalties are expected, so this is not a bug in Blender. As to why some scaling factors work better, this is probably due to optimizations regarding integer scaling, it is easier to scale between 100x100 <-> 200x200 than between 100x100 <-> 150x150 because they are integer multiples of each other.
