Short description of error

USD Material assignment is correct but the material preview viewport shading is showing "fragmented" textures.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. File, Import, usdc
  2. Check Import USD Preview
  3. Change Viewport to Material Preview Mode

I don't think this has anything to do with the USD importer, since you manually assigned the materials.
Looking at the file, the Normal texture is being affected by the sRGB color space. Switching to linear solves the problem.

I think you misunderstood. I didn't manually assign these materials in the project I shared.

That means the USD Importer incorrectly marks the normal texture as RGB.

Maybe this has to do with the texture naming and added 0 that it doesn't see it as a normal (baked_mesh_norm0.png)

I think you misunderstood. I didn't manually assign these materials in the project I shared. this is what happened when I used the USD importer and had it auto assign the material. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
It looks like that solving this is the ToDo mentioned in #93904 (USD import: investigate texture color space conversion issue).
So it's something that is already being worked on.
