What happens is that when you shift to XYZ, the view transform changes from Filmic to Standard. And when you shift back to sRGB, the view transform stays on Standard and as such a different result is expected. Because you are comparing sRGB Filmic (before) to sRGB Standard (after)

So, technically it's not a bug, but it could be designed better (E.G. Blender remembered what view transform you had selected in sRGB mode and switching back to it when you switch back). I will leave the decision on whether or not this a report that should be kept open to someone else.

True, transform is not preserved.
In #91751#1226749 Brecht said that this is outside the scope of Bug tracker.
So thanks for the report, the issue reported here is a request for modified/improved behavior and not a bug in current behavior. Closing as this bug tracker is only for bugs and errors.
