Short description of error
GPU subdivision: paint mask selection not visible when mesh is smooth shaded

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
from the default startup file:

  • {key w} > Shade Smooth the default cube
  • {key Ctrl 1} to add a subdivision modifier
  • make sure Preferences > Viewport > Subdivision > GPU subdivision is turned ON
  • go to any mode supporting mask (weightpaint, vertexpaint, texturepaint)
  • enable Face selection masking for painting
  • no mask overlay is visible
    (not talking about the wireframe of the paintmask (this has its own report)

e.g. in vertexpaint, should look like this:

Is this limited to smooth shading? Just went over #98996 where mask overlay is not visible regardless of shading type.
