Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open .blend
  • Select CUDA from preferences
  • Select cycles render engine -> GPU compute
  • Render image

I had two spheres on top of each other, and when I hid one of the the render looked fine image.png (GPU render).

Thanks for the report. I can confirm this in 2.93-3.4 versions when CUDA is used for rendering

This is a known limitation / trade-off of the ray tracing precision changes made in Blender 3.1. Exactly overlapping geometry now must be explicitly avoided, while precision improved in other areas.

The result can be different between devices.

Hi Brecht, you're referring to Ray_Tracing_Precision and 74afc86d4b right?
But this is not something introduced after that commit. Issue is even replicable in 2.93.
