Issue
For a long time there has been a minor shortcut conflict in Sculpt Mode with
Shift R
.The shortcut is assigned to both "Repeat Last" & "Edit Voxel Size".
In the near future we plan to add more operators and redo support to sculpt mode.
The new curve hair sytsem and their sculpting toolset will also rely more heavily on operators.
To prevent the shortcut conflict from spreading to new areas of Blender and blocking common operations, we need to solve it now.
Solution
We agreed to universally use the shortcut
R
for defining resolutions and density for voxels, dyntopo and hair curves. The existing shortcut for the "Angle Control" menu will be replaced by this so there is no conflict.

Honestly I dislike the Alt R solution because it makes it impossible to use "Edit Voxel Size" and "Voxel Remesh" [CTRL R] with the same fingers, making you move the hand away.
Also consider that Dyntopo has a Shift D "Edit Dyntopo Size" widget, which ideally should have the same logic as the voxel size edit one.

From recent module meeting:
Proposal A
If we adjust the keybindings for the voxel remesher, this should also affect the dyntopo shortcuts (for consistency). So we could go for:
Edit Voxel SIze =
Ctrl R
Voxel Remesh =
Ctrl Shift R
Edit Dyntopo Size =
Ctrl D
Enable Dyntopo =
Ctrl Shift D
The same fingers would then be used for all of them.
Other modes can then reuse the shortcut
Ctrl R
for changing a relevant global size. But this makes the shortcuts more complex for operations that are done very regularly.
Proposal B
There are also other options we didn't discuss yet, like using the same shortcut for resizing the voxel size and dyntopo size.
Because as of right now it's impossible to access voxel remesher shortcuts while dyntopo is used.
So in that case we could go for:
Edit Voxel Size =
R
Voxel Remesh =
Ctrl R
And when dyntopo is enabled:
Edit Dyntopo Size =
R
Dyntopo Flood Fill =
Ctrl R
The shortcut
R
can then be reused in curve sculpt mode.Changed status from 'Needs Developer To Reproduce' to: 'Confirmed'
Based on discussions from the recent module meeting, we should prioritize this task for the release of 3.5.
So I'm raising the priority.
I'm adding the module because this also affects the curve sculpt mode shortcuts.
