Short description of error
Catalan translation is very wrong making Blender unusable - many sentences don't make sense
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Launch Blender and choose Catalan translation.
Although some words / phrases are correct, there are many that mean something completely different in Catalan. They don't seem to match the original sentence.
I tried to see when it was last correct and it seems that the Catalan translation has been wrong for quite a some time (some were imported in the current status from SVN).
Just a few examples:
msgid: "Colors" msgstr: "Rotar" (it means "To rotate") (https://developer.blender.org/diffusion/BT/browse/master/po/ca.po$125)
msgid: "20 - Theme Color Set" msgstr: "Desparentar" (it means "to unparent") (https://developer.blender.org/diffusion/BT/browse/master/po/ca.po$117)
msgid: "Device to use for computation (rendering with Cycles)" msgstr: "Guardar com" (it means "Save as") (https://developer.blender.org/diffusion/BT/browse/master/po/ca.po$145)
I cannot translate Blender (I don't use Blender, it needs a full re-translation). My suggestion is to remove the Catalan translation :-( until someone can look after it.
I emailed the latest translator a few weeks ago and I have not had an answer yet. They do not seem to be active, nowadays.

@carles_pina, you are right, this issue comes from rBTS1452, more than nine years ago. This commit marked many fuzzy (wrongly copied) messages (over 9000) as valid. Before that, there were only 237 translations, which have been duplicated all over the place. Since then, there was no translation contribution.
So I agree this seems completely unusable and ought to be started from zero.

The problem here is that we probably need to do that for a few languages that have been fully inactive since this mistake was committed... If someone has time to carefully check the SVN logs and come up with a list, then can revert all those languages to commit prior to rBTS1452, and re-update them with latest Blender master. But would rather avoid having to do that for each affected language separately ;|
I had a look into this. Here are two tables: in each are the numbers of unique messages* and translated messages, and the percentage of unique / translated messages for each language. The last column is the languages that have not changed since that fatal 2013 commit. This gives us a rough idea of the problematic languages.
(*extracted in a naïve way, not accounting for identical messages with different contexts)
The first table contains the languages below an arbitrary threshold of 150 unique messages, which I consider altogether untranslated, but others could be considered the same as well (below 500? 1000?).
Anyway, my conclusion is that

can safely be restored to their 2013 state.fi
is more problematic since it has been worked on a few months ago and I’d rather leave it alone.I can do it if there is no objection.
@pioverfour thanks for that checking work! Yes your list looks good to me, would indeed also not touch to
fi
at this point. Feel free to do the revert. This issue was referenced by blender/blender-translations@6103
