As discussed on bf-committers it would be nice if there was some simple way to add them back, but needs a bit of thought and probably code work to get it to fit well with phabricator projects and custom fields.

Project tags instead of the categories (like what's used for the rest of the tracker) would probably work.

Any news on this? It would be very helpful to organize all of the GE bugs.

It should be possible to do this with projects. Would these project names be ok?

  • Game Physics
  • Game Python
  • Game Rendering
  • Game Animation
  • Game Logic
  • Game UI

I think they can be assigned to categories pretty easy by searching for e.g. "Category: Rendering", and then doing a batch operation, but I should disable sending emails during that.

If you can assign the project names based on our old categories, then that would be great. Otherwise, it might be a good time to re-evaluate our categories if we have to re-tag every entry manually anyways. In addition to the project names listed, we also had a Conversion and an Audio category.

I've now created projects and assigned them to the tasks based on the old categories, so I think that' solves this.
