Hi,

To correctly process entries during the festival, it is better to make the artist submitting the project decide what is shown on the title cards and final communication. At the moment we have to guess (sometimes) and hope it is correctly shown during the festival. Also with AI becoming more common it is good to to define a clear distinction of what we do or don't accept.

These are some recommendations for a more streamlined process:

  • Field for festival credit, a studio, single creator or multiple people is fine. But preferably a limit of three people would be best in the title card (directors or writers)
  • Make it clear what the name of the user is and discourage the use of a nicknames for straightforward communication
  • We require a final product with a horizontal aspect ratio for a proper festival entry. Preferably no social media related aspect ratios!
  • List of software used
  • How Blender was used/applied during production. This is a good factor to decide the legitimacy of the entry
  • A big one, AI. Was AI based software used during production and to what extent? We should have a no-tolerance policy on AI but if it is very minor it could be allowed?
  • Clearly communicate that the 'Special Selection' is an out of competition category, meaning no award is given. Special Selection sounds more appreciative than out of competition
  • Instead of a category dropdown on the entry page, we should communicate a "preferred" category so we can take the artist preference into consideration
  • As an admin on the entry page, create an "Email user" button or show their email address for quick correspondence. Not everyone will notice sent emails (from conference.blender.org) notifying the status of their entry. It is sometimes better to email them directly for information or provided download link of their project
  • I'm unsure about this, but what is the hard deadline to submit a project? Two days in advance? We should communicate this clearly to avoid disappointments.

Extras

  • Subtitle requirement with a lot of dialogue could increase accessibility for the hearing impaired. For non-English productions it is recommended to use subtitles unless artistically irrelevant
  • Another accessibility feature could be a photo sensitivity warning
  • A month (September) in advance we could notify the public on various platforms/websites that the festival is taking place. Thinking about blenderartist, blendernation, on youtube, Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin. This is hopefully to create awareness and possibly more submissions.
