Dear Blender Development Team:

I am writing to supplement my suggestions regarding the add-on library update for Blender 4.2.

In recent years, with the rise of digital art-related skills competitions, Blender has gradually become a mainstream 3D art creation software, alongside Maya, 3ds Max, and C4D. This has played a crucial role in popularizing Blender among young students.

In these competitions, Blender's fast performance makes it the preferred choice for many contestants. This is partly due to some essential add-ons, such as Rigify, Node Wrangler, and Loop Tools.

However, in many competitions, internet connection is strictly prohibited, and only the native installation packages of the software are provided. This means that contestants cannot download and install add-ons from the add-on library. This poses a significant obstacle for participants who rely on these add-ons for their creation.

Based on the above situation, I suggest including the stable versions of the following essential add-ons in the Blender 4.2 installation package:

Rigify: For automatic rigging of humanoid characters
Node Wrangler: For simplifying node editing
Loop Tools: For fast editing of loops
Other commonly used add-on modules, such as common add-ons for modeling, animation, rendering, and sculpting modules
I believe that including these add-ons in the installation package will greatly improve Blender's usability in competitions and allow more users to fully unleash its potential.

Here are some reasons to support my suggestion:

These add-ons are already widely used and have become an integral part of many users' workflows.
Including them in the installation package will improve Blender's ease of use and accessibility, especially in offline environments.
This will help ensure that all users have a consistent experience, regardless of whether they have internet access.
Of course, I also understand that there may be some challenges in including all essential add-ons in the installation package, such as increasing the installation package size and maintenance costs. Therefore, I suggest prioritizing the three add-ons mentioned above, as they are the most popular and have the greatest impact on workflows. At the same time, I also hope that the Blender development team can develop a long-term plan to gradually include more commonly used add-ons in future versions.

I believe that through the joint efforts of the community, we can find a solution that balances the interests of all parties and makes Blender a more powerful and user-friendly 3D art creation tool.

Thank you for reading my suggestion.

Sincerely,

Kaka Luc

I agree.
On Twitter it was suggested to add a 'legacy addon' package on the 4.2 DL page, to avoid confusion.
And a link to the new extensions website, as it is not well known for now.

Maybe even split addons up by a handful of categories, e.g. rigging/animation, modeling, shading/texturing, I/O.

I also agree on the notion that this will add another level of steps for new users, and non-technical users.
But do applaud the more central 'findability' of addons. :)

Hi, no further changes are planned on that regard. I'm closing this now to leave the tracker only for issues.

You can share further feedback on devtalk.
