For 2.90 release this should not be exposed in the RNA API.
In master this needs to be ON by default, that's all.

Same exact system as instancing on vertices for a mesh. More powerful ways
of instancing will be added at some later point, but this makes the basics
works and is consistent with other geometry types.
Duplication and deletion code of modifiers was totally wrong for
particle system, that special weird thing needs its own custom
management.
Note that for now I chose not to duplicate the particle settings ID when
duplicating the modifier...
Blender has an operator to do Copy & Paste of constraints between
objects and bones, but no simple method to do that directly via
the Python API is provided. This adds a copy() method to object
and pose bone constraint collections.

This replaces the cmake options `WITH_NEW_OBJECT_TYPES` and
`WITH_NEW_SIMULATION_TYPE` with two experimental userpref settings:
* `use_new_particle_system`: Enables the point cloud type and the simulation editor.
* `use_new_hair_type`: Only displays the add-operator in the add menu for now.
Note, in the current state you can't do anything productive with the new particle
system or the new hair type. Features will be added step by step in the upcoming
weeks and months.

This hides the original metaballs when they are used in
duplifaces/-verts instancing, and still shows the instanced metaballs.
The visibility of the original metaballs is now determined by the
visibility of the instancer. I'm not too thrilled about this, but at
least it gives users the ability to show/hide the metaballs for
viewport/render.

While this should not happen, we still want to handle those errors
gracefully from user perspective (i.e. assert for devs, no crash for
users).
Actual fix of root cause of the issue will come later.
This commit is a full refactor of the grease pencil modules including Draw Engine, Modifiers, VFX, depsgraph update, improvements in operators and conversion of Sculpt and Weight paint tools to real brushes.
Also, a huge code cleanup has been done at all levels.
Thanks to @fclem for his work and yo @pepeland and @mendio for the testing and help in the development.

- Use 'BKE_object_defgroup' prefix for object functions.
- Rename 'defvert_verify_index' to 'defvert_ensure_index'
since this adds the group if it isn't found.
Some modifiers (like particle system, but also some other physics
simulations) require extra steps besides creating the modifier itself,
so had to switch to higher-level `ED_object_modifier_add()` to add
inserted modifiers in an overriding object data-block.
Due to how particle modifier handles copying, some extra nasty
hacks/work-around were also needed to get it working.
### Description of the problem
Until now, it is only possible to correctly add a lightprobe in python via an operator:
`bpy.ops.object.lightprobe_add()`
### Description of the proposed solution
The idea of this patch is to fix the lack of consistency lightprobe creation without operator.
It allow creation of different lightprobe type directly via `bpy.data.lightprobes.new(name, type)` (such as for curves).
In order to make it possible I had to:
1. Add a function `BKE_lightprobe_configure` in charge of lightprobe settings configuration (avoid code redundancy)
2. Allow an object to take lightprobe datablock as data during is initialization.
### A short example of this patch usage
```
lp = bpy.data.lightprobes.new('some_name','PLANAR')
bpy.data.objects.new('toto', lp)
```

Useful for using reference images that only make sense to see

This restores functionality possible with 2.7x background images.
See: T52668.
Hook modifier uses same kind of parent inverse matrix as regular object
parenting, so we need to bypass that matrix re-computation when setting
the overridding object here as well.
Also cleanup some minor glitches in object parents' override_apply func.
The old layout of `PointerRNA` was confusing for historic reasons:
```
typedef struct PointerRNA {
struct {
void *data;
} id;
struct StructRNA *type;
void *data;
} PointerRNA;
```
This patch updates it to:
```
typedef struct PointerRNA {
struct ID *owner_id;
struct StructRNA *type;
void *data;
} PointerRNA;
```
Throughout the code base `id.data` was replaced with `owner_id`.
Furthermore, many explicit pointer type casts were added which
were implicit before. Some type casts to `ID *` were removed.

We need a custom 'apply override' callback here to prevent resetting
the inverse parent matrix.
Things are now working for basic cases, but complex ones (in production
rigs e.g.) are still partially broken...
