6c2ce7a382 Add Theme Option for UI Emboss
This adds a theme option for the embossing of UI widgets. By doing this users have much greater flexibility for creating nice themes. Previously many themes (particularly dark ones) looked quite bad due to the very obvious emboss. This made simpler, flat-style themes very challenging.

c08e7e1dc0 Fix T42209: Changing Node Editor header color also changes wire color
The nodes wire was using 'TH_HEADER' flag to get its color and thus would be in sync with the header. Now make it so it uses its 'own' flag (actually 'TH_SYNTAX_R', the only TH_SYNTAX_* which wasn't yet used by the nodes).
Also expose the setting to the user so it can be themified.

This fixes T42209

There are a few minor issues remaining but development can go on in

a861e5572a UI: Add theme color for viewport overlay
Was using wire or black in many places, this color is used for cursor,
camera guides, transform helper lines. So its possible to have a dark
background with light overlay color.

Patch D331 by Brita, with some edits.

fbc7ab30ff Curves: save active point to file
Changed curve active point from pointer to index. Allows curve active point to be saved to file and retained between modes for free. Also some small optimisations by removing pointer look up code.

- Made active point access functions into BKE API calls.
- Fixes operators where curve de-selection resulted in unsel-active point.
- Split curve delete into 2 functions

- ui_theme_init_new_do now always sets theme settings (no need to test),
  used by bpy.ops.ui.reset_default_theme()

5e5b0cee4f T37579: Theme settings for Keyframe Colours
This patch makes it possible to customise the colours used for the different
keyframe types (Keyframe, Breakdown, Extreme, Jitter) and the border colours
(normal and selected).

820acf1b9e add editmode wire color,
also changed lattice to use this, it used a hard-coded green color which was hard to see over the default background.

62cede96d3 A major code update for making the DNA file specification of Freestyle settings
and RNA for it independent of the build flag for enabling Freestyle.  Suggested
by Sergey Sharybin through a code review of the branch.

* Many #ifdef WITH_FREESTYLE blocks were removed to always have Freestyle-specific
DNA file specification and RNA for it built in Blender.  This will allow Freestyle
setting survive even when a non-Freestyle build is used for loading and saving
files.  It is noted that operations are still conditionally built through #ifdef
WITH_FREESTYLE blocks.

* To this end, new blenkernel files BKE_freestyle.h and intern/freestyle.c have
been added.  All API functions in FRS_freestyle_config.h as well as some of those
in FRS_freestyle.h were moved to the new files.  Now the relocated API functions
have BKE_ prefix instead of FRS_.

4638e5f99a Merge of the PyNodes branch (aka "custom nodes") into trunk.
PyNodes opens up the node system in Blender to scripters and adds a number of UI-level improvements.

=== Dynamic node type registration ===
Node types can now be added at runtime, using the RNA registration mechanism from python. This enables addons such as render engines to create a complete user interface with nodes.

Examples of how such nodes can be defined can be found in my personal wiki docs atm [1] and as a script template in release/scripts/templates_py/custom_nodes.py [2].

=== Node group improvements ===
Each node editor now has a tree history of edited node groups, which allows opening and editing nested node groups. The node editor also supports pinning now, so that different spaces can be used to edit different node groups simultaneously. For more ramblings and rationale see (really old) blog post on code.blender.org [3].

The interface of node groups has been overhauled. Sockets of a node group are no longer displayed in columns on either side, but instead special input/output nodes are used to mirror group sockets inside a node tree. This solves the problem of long node lines in groups and allows more adaptable node layout. Internal sockets can be exposed from a group by either connecting to the extension sockets in input/output nodes (shown as empty circle) or by adding sockets from the node property bar in the "Interface" panel. Further details such as the socket name can also be changed there.

ff6339a979 Make options for background gradient more organized.
This was difficult to do because we group theme colours and display them
together in user preferences. To make the background options more
presentable and keep them grouped and separate, I needed to group the
two gradient colours somehow. I added a separate ThemeSpaceGradient RNA
struct as opposed to ThemeSpaceGeneric. This struct is the same as
ThemeSpaceGeneric but it lacks the window background option (which does
nothing now) and includes the UiGradient struct which now has both
gradient colours. I modified the clear functions to use a new high
colour from the gradient. Now all options appear grouped and any other
editor that may use a gradient for the window background may do so.

Also corrected incorrect MAIN_VERSION_ATLEAST macro, it would not detect
versions correctly

d72a90349a Eyecandy feature: background gradient for 3D viewport. Enable in user preferences under themes->3D view->Theme Gradient Color. This is only used when use render only is not ticked and for now it may interfere with grid lines. Will investigate how to adjust contrast.

520ab93465 Fix for theme colors not correctly applied to the user interface.
This commit partly reverts the changes in revision 53197 for
making Freestyle optional.  Specifically #ifdef WITH_FREESTYLE
was removed from source/blender/editors/include/UI_resources.h so
that Freestyle-related theme properties are always defined
regardless of whether Freestyle is enabled or not.  This is in
line with the fact that Freestyle-related DNA components are
always defined no matter how a build is configured.

e9c7aaaa3c patch [#33609] Syntax highlighting for OSL in Text Editor
from Patrick Boelens (senshi). with modifications to split it into its own function.

also added C style multi-line comment support /* ... */

I've left out the part of this patch that sets the language in the space, since I think this might be better stored in the text block.

For now it simply uses OSL syntax highlighting when the extension is '.osl'.

- now each editor has own settings for "show panel header" and
  "show panel background", and colors+alpha for this.

- this setting used to be global for all editors, but it can conflict
  with looks of specific editors. 

- Now you can set for editors to show panels with a 100% transparent
  tool/properties region. 

Note: read XML theme files now might get an error, Campbell will fix.

9b91da0d0d Axis Colours are now Themeable
This commit allows you to set the RGB <-> XYZ axis colours used for things like
the mini axis indicator, grid axis indicators, manipulators, transform
constraint indicators, F-Curves (when using XYZ to RGB colouring option), and
perhaps something else I've missed. Previously, these places all used hardcoded
defines (220 * i/j/k), but the readability of these colours was often quite
poor, especially when used with certain themes.

The settings for these colours can be found under the "User Interface" section
of the themes (i.e. same set of colours is used across editors). I could have
made these per editor, but since it's unlikely that these will need to be too
different across editors in practice (+ being easier to version patch), they are
stored under the UI section.

4371ee22f9 Theme Colors for NLA Strips and DopeSheet Summary
* NLA Strip colors are now themable
* Changed the "Active Action"/"Summary" colors to be a bit more muted. The new
colors are now closer to those for keyframes, though they are still different
enough to be clearly distinguishable.
* Removed some colors wihch don't seem to be used (from NLA theme colors)
* Added function to get theme colors + alpha as floats
