1aadbdedc7 found a bug by accident.
- bugfix for setting string defaults in rna functions (incorrect pointer use and would copy past string length).
- Object.dm_info was setting a default when it didnt need to.

b748d4f0cf debug function DM_debug_info / DM_debug_print, with access from python
through Object.dm_info('SOURCE/DEFORM/FINAL')

this is to help tracking down issues with modifiers where loosing data
layers between modifiers can cause bugs, also to helo with comparing
bmesh/trunk's modifier stack.

8ed5fdde1d - remove rna access to deprecated sequencer attributes x/y offset & zoom.
- Object.to_mesh was still using deprecated colbits variable (object material wouldnt work for any material after 16)
- dont set colbits when setting material slot anymore.

3d5330f789 vertex group changes,
use more api functions more (some vertex group editing functions were copied about), also make some functions int oapi calls.

- remove defgroup_find_index(), use BLI_findlink instead since they both work the same way.
- move static function getNearestPointOnPlane() to BLI_math api function closest_to_plane_v3()
- ED_vgroup_give_parray() added option to return an array where unselected verts are NULL (simplifies code & works for lattice when it didn't before).
- more consistant error checking of ob->actdef.

0154982396 Object.to_mesh() for metaball objects now only return a mesh for the basis/mother
metaball. This should fix duplicated export of metaballs for python exporters and
cycles.

4e235c184b Blender modifications for Cycles integration.
Some notes about code status:

* The Blender modifications were fairly quickly put together, much more code
  polish and work is needed to get this to a state where it can be committed
  to trunk. Files created with this version may not work in future versions.

* Only simple path tracing is supported currently, but we intend to provide
  finer control, and more options where it makes sense.

* For GPU rendering, only CUDA works currently. The intention is to have the
  same kernel code compile for C++/OpenCL/CUDA, some more work is needed to
  get OpenCL functional.

* There are two shading backends: GPU compatible and Open Shading Language.
  Unfortunately, OSL only runs on the CPU currently, getting this to run on
  the GPU would be a major undertaking, and is unlikely to be supported soon.
  Additionally, it's not possible yet to write custom OSL shaders.

* There is some code for adaptive subdivision and displacement, but it's far
  from finished. The intention is to eventually have a nice unified bump and
  displacement system.

* The code currently has a number of fairly heavy dependencies: Boost,
  OpenImageIO, GLEW, GLUT, and optionally OSL, Partio. This makes it difficult
  to compile, we'll try to eliminate some, it may take a while before it
  becomes easy to compile this.

da18391ac4 api function added for [#26481] Export to X3D of IndexedFaceSet should use X3D 's DEF USE mechanism
Object.is_modified(scene, 'PREVIEW') function for python exporters to check if any modifiers or shape keys are applied (weather the original mesh can be used for exporters).

bd1c5d48f2 RNA API Rename
'create' was used as prefix and suffix, change dupli list functions to use as suffix, this matches obj.animation_data_create() & obj.animation_data_clear().
 obj.create_dupli_list() --> obj.dupli_list_create()
 obj.free_dupli_list() --> obj.dupli_list_clear()

Don't use 'create' for object to mesh function since other uses of this are for createing data which stays attached, instead use mathutils style naming convention.
  obj.create_mesh() --> obj.to_mesh()

43007d7fed - fix python error for poselib UI when none is active.
- add info to create_dupli_objects rna function docstring.
- transform snap had bad define, disabling BVH accelerated snap (own fault).

06aee2ef0e misc warnings/fixes
- WITH_OPENJPEG wasn't defined for creator.c with CMake.
- remove shadowed/redefined vars.
- remove some unused RNA report args.
- re-arrange IMB_FILE_TYPES so IRIS is not the first format tested, since its not very common test JPEG and PNG first.

346f749a57 Adding support for the "media" play/pause/stop/next/prev buttons
available on many keyboards these days, so that they can be used for
animation playback (giving more options over alt-a and alt-a ad-
infinitum).

Currently, this is Windows only as I don't have a Linux/Mac system to
test on (it should compile with both mingw and msvc, at least using
scons). Maintainers for those systems can probably easily add this in
once they find out the relevant mappings for those systems.

54b2127fad Fix for [#25857] create_dupli_list incorrect behaviour with particle systems
* Particle duplis are now always created with render percentage if G.rendering is set.
* This is not yet a perfect solution (hair for example won't yet work correctly), but
  it's good to have even partial functionality here until a proper way to handle this
  is implemented.

8f21a43535 split BKE_utildefines.h, now it only has blender specific defines like GS() MAKE_ID, FILE_MAXDIR, moved the generic defines to BLI_utildefines.h.

35422ac536 rna/api
move Object.update(...) to ID.update(). since depsgraph update function can now be called on ID types.

also changed how update flags work.

  obj.update(scene, 1, 1, 1)
... is now
  obj.update({'OBJECT', 'DATA', 'TIME'})

Don't pass scene anymore. This was used for recalculating text but I think this is better dont in a different function.

1622385445 pedantic word ordering change.
- wm.add_modal_handler -> modal_handler_add
- wm.add_fileselect -> fileselect_add
- ob.add_shape_key -> shape_key_add
- VIEW3D_OT_add_background_image -> VIEW3D_OT_background_image_add (same for remove)

Also made 2 internal cmake vars hidden.

b110c7c8f2 Dependency graph: changed DAG_id_flush_update to DAG_id_tag_update. Now it
only tags the ID and does the actual flush/update delayed, before the next
redraw. For objects the update was already delayed, just flushing wasn't
yet.

This should help performance in python and animation editors, by making 
calls to RNA property update quicker. Still need to add calls in a few
places where this was previously avoided due to bad performance.

51dcbdde03 use 'const char *' by default with RNA functions except when the value is flagged as PROP_THICK_WRAP.
Also use const char in many other parts of blenders code.

Currently this gives warnings for setting operator id, label and description since these are an exception and allocated beforehand.

  obj.add_vertex_to_group() --> obj.vertex_groups.assign()

note: obj.vertex_groups.assign() will be very slow, need to have this take a list rather then 1 vertex at a time.

f1b9d395e3 - base_object.layers_from_view(view3d), needed for setting local layers
- module 'add_object_utils', so each script doesnt need its own add object code, dealing with layers, scene, cursor location, editmode etc.

9498121463 Object API changes so these functions now require a scene as first argument:
create_mesh, create_dupli_list, make_display_list and is_visible.

This is done in order to make these context independent as the RNA API should
be as much as possible, and to fix #21297 and #21719, where there was an
assumption from these functions that there is a scene in the context, which
does not work for external render engines exporting in a separate thread.

Also avoided using context in a number of other functions, ideally only UI/WM
type functions should use context.

I've updated the scripts in trunk, but the addons and external ones in
development will need updates too.

9733e902a5 RNA functions
Fixed and completed support for returning multiple values. This includes support for returning arrays, both fixed and dynamically sized. The way this is achieved is by storing an additional int value next to the dynamic parameter in the ParameterList stack which gets passed to the C function as an additional parameter. In the case of return parameters it is duty of the C function to set this int to the correct length value for the dynamic parameter (which makes sense). Note that for the dynamic output/return parameter it is assumed the function has allocated that memory (which gets freed automatically).

Also, I cleaned the makesrna's bridge function generation code a bit and renamed PROP_RETURN to PROP_OUTPUT, which represents better the reality now that there are multiple returns. The function now to mark multiple returns (outputs) is RNA_def_function_output.

For an example, look at Action.get_frame_range in rna_action_api.c, by the way Aligorith I removed the #ifdef for this function now that there's support for returning arrays, feel free to modify (the function seems to work).

e292b5badc fix for crash when setting a shapekeys name in rna, (probably other properties too).
When the shapekey was returned from the object it didnt use the data's ID which is expected elsewhere in RNA.

Transfer shape now also sets the name.

c1b0239f06 RNA Ray casting function for python access, uses BVH acceleration structure (same as shrink wrap), very fast & useful for object placing scripts.
Python Example.
 hit_location, hit_normal, face_index = object.ray_cast(ray_start, ray_end)

- first rna func to use multiple return values
- currently casts in object space, may want to cast in worldspace too.
