shader to RGB node doesn't work correctly in blender3.2 #100125

Broken: version: 3.2.1, branch: master, commit date: 2022-07-05 15:44, hash: a2d59b2dac
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
I found a bug,in EEVEE engine the (shader to RGB) node invalidates the SSS node in Blender3.2 / Blender3.3, but it works fine in Blender3.1.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

This seems a side effect of the changes in 80859a6cb2.

  • ShaderToRGB node will remove any SSR and SSS form a shader.

I'm not sure if the previous behavior will be implemented anytime soon.

thank you for explaining. I hope shader to RGB node can be worked on cycles also ,because shader to RGB node and SSS node together, the effect is very good in skin shader.

If Shader to RGB is turned off, the character's light and dark color changes will be very flat.It can simulate the color change of the dark and bright parts of the skin.

I am sorry but this was a intended regression I made to work towards EEVEE Next that will have the same behavior.

It has been documented in the release notes.

Materials using Shader-To-RGB nodes now never receive Screen Space Reflections or Sub-Surface Scattering effects even if the BSDFs are not connected to the Shader-To-RGB nodes

So I consider it working as intended. I don't have anything to propose as a workaround. Sorry again.

@fclem Is there a way to get this back into the blender? I'm stuck on version 3.1.1 because my models look really ugly without this shading, I just wanted this implementation again ;-;
