Textures messed up when rendering with Cycles HIP on AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX #105526

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.22621-SP0 64 Bits (I'm actually using Windows 11 22H2 22621.1265 by winver)
Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX ATI Technologies Inc. 4.5.0 Core Profile Context 23.2.2.230217
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.4.1, branch: blender-v3.4-release, commit date: 2022-12-19 17:00, hash: rB55485cb379f7
Worked: None. I've tried 3.3 (GPU rendering is not working, blender said like a HIP binary is missing, sorry I forgot the details), 3.4.1 (GPU rendering is working, but has this issue) and today's 3.5.0 beta v35.83f28793c0b3 (same as 3.4.1)

Short description of error
With Cycles HIP, when rendering a basic scene (any mesh, simple Principled material with 1 albedo and 1 normal map) on an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX, the rendered result is totally wrong: either 1) the mesh appears that it's wrongly colored by the normal map, the albedo is missing, or 2) has no normal maps, only base color is showed.

Here's a scene I made, rendered with CPU (same result on a RTX 2060 Super GPU):

Screenshot_CPU_Render.png

Here's one possible GPU rendered result (missing albedo, case 1 above):

Screenshot_GPU_Render_case1.png

Here's another possible result (missing normal map, case 2 above):

Screenshot_GPU_Render_case2.png

Both of the 2 cases above are possible, and may change to the other each time you start rendering.

This issue also happens when environment texture (HDRI) is used. Simply put: it seems to me that only one "randomly chosen" texture can be handled at a time, and all other textures in the scene are replaced by that.

Turning off Smart Access Memory does not help.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
On a computer with RX 7900 XTX, and with blender Cycles Render Devices > 7900XTX ticked:

  1. Open project.blend
  2. Press F12 to render the scene

With regards,
Oasin

This is a weird one. We've tested pretty extensively with various scenes in https://www.blender.org/download/demo-files/ and not seen this. And testing on my side I can't reproduce (although I don't have an XTX myself just an XT shouldn't matter). AMD QA has of course tested with a 7900 XTX and not seen an issue.

You still see this with latest builds? I'd like a similar report from another user to confirm this, but so far I'm perplexed, as we can't reproduce it.

Thanks for the reply.

You still see this with latest builds?

Just tried today's blender-3.5.0-candidate+v35.6e51f8d2023a-windows.amd64-release and sadly the same result.

Also tried rendering the demo scene barbershop_interior.blend, got the result below.

Just tried this on an RX 7900 XTX on the latest 3.5.0 stable release of Blender, and can't replicate the above issue.

GPU: Asus TUF RX 7900 XTX
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

Does problem persist in recent 3.6.1 build?: https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/

This sounds similar to #113521 #116108

#113521 (comment) : After disabling the embedded processor in Device Manager, only the CPU and graphics card are options, and everything works again!

Can you check whether disabling iGPU from device manager prevents the render problem?
