Short description of error
Render crash 3.5.1 and memory leak 3.6.0

I got download Blender 3.5.1 Candidate and Blender 3.6.0 Alpha April 4, 2023

I did take test Blender 3.5.1 Command + F12 make render for a while until crash guide.
Blender 3.6.0 Command + F12 make render for a while until about 850 frames become black screen cause memory leak.

Why not appear render
1 frame write videocard ram memory go up then write .mov then clean up videocard memory plus ram then
2 frame write videocard ram memory go up then write .mov then clean up videocard memory plus ram then
3 frame write videocard ram memory go up then write .mov then clean up videocard memory plus ram then
4 frame write videocard ram memory go up then write .mov then clean up videocard memory plus ram then
5 frame write videocard ram memory go up then write .mov then clean up videocard memory plus ram then
6 frame write videocard ram memory go up then write .mov then clean up videocard memory plus ram then

UNTIL

60,000 frame write videocard ram memory then write .mov then clean up videocard memory complete.

.Mov and .PNG Sequence after already write .png then clean up ram each frames.
Both motherboard ram and videocard ram
For example "CleanMyMac.app" clean up ram more memory. Why not Blender can do clean up ram each render Command + F12.

  1. Open Holy Spirit SuperNatural 2.3.0.blend
  2. Click Properties Physics then click Bake All button.
  3. Command + F12

You will see crash 3.5.1
You will see become black screen after about 850frames 3.6.0

Can't reproduce this issue. 3.5 is also working fine here

Blender 3.5 already still memory leak but go 3.6 to fix code.
Its time for 3.6 need to fix because of 3.6 memory leak still there is not resolve.

Could you please confirm whether this happens with the Metal backend or OpenGL backend enabled, or both?

Both. I can confirm from my end. I have the same system type as Kent Davis.
Major memory leak when using texture sizes exceeding a 4K resolution.

Everytime I render an animation in Cycles, Blender crashes after like 200 frames, or renders corrupt blank frames to the end. This is whether or not I have the metal viewport on.

Hi @mod_moder, I can try to find out which latest version that works, but it will take a few days, I have a project that fails after 100-200 frames every time. Today I tried the latest RC of 3.6 it stopped rendering on frame 153. I will now try 3.5.1.

Todays 3.6 RC rendered correctly up to frame 355, after that black/corrupt frames. Blender was not unresponsive though so I could quit the program properly.

Todays Stable 3.6 release for Apple Silicon stopped rendering on fram 363 of 2000. Not very stable if you ask me.

I did put Flame fire first before render there is bad black screen.
