"Parent only" setting doesn't work in this case #107006

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.22621-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 531.41

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.5.0, branch: blender-v3.5-release, commit date: 2023-03-29 02:56, hash: 1be25cfff18b
Worked: ???

Short description of error
In 3D viewport, there is this Option menu in the top right corner, that has a setting "Parents only". This makes it so, that you are able to transform and move parent objects, leaving child objects in place. This works if you move the parent with Move gizmo or hotkey G, BUT, if you instead move the parent object by changing Item panel's X/Y/Z location values, the child moves with the parent.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
See the attached sample blend file. Or try this:

  1. Create two objects: A and B
  2. Parent the B object to A. Now the B object should move if you move A.
  3. Go to Option menu in viewport top right corner, and select "Parents only"
  4. Now if you move object A, object B should stay in place.
  5. If you instead try to move object A by changing it's location values from the Item menu, object B suddenly moves with it (when it shouldn't)

Hi, thanks for the report. This is not a bug as far as I understood, see: #71437

That "Affect Only" refers to tools, like when you press 'G' to grab or 'R' to rotate. The transform panel refers to the object as a whole. That's why this is not a bug.
Now this might be bad design or confusing to users, but as mentioned before, intentional behavior is not defined as a bug.
