Compare preview with Metal and OpenGL
Blender 3.4.1 there clear 3D viewport but 3.5.1, 3.6, 4.0 is bug eye too darkness 3D viewport
What you mean is that this asset is not related to blender (created and distributed by a random person).
It uses pre-rendered (?) previews.
And is this, potentially, so conceived by the author?
Eyes is fine only 3D Viewport bug because of materials Blender 3.4.1 is fine clear. But 3.5.1 and up too darkness. Not talk about Asset. Only object circle viewport.

Here in Cycles the latest
EYE.blend
shows completely black and in eevee it shows a little bit color.Not sure what the intended result is, but I'd suggest contacting the author for more information or updates.
I do use Macintosh. iMac.

3.5.1, 3.6, 4.0 all same bug too darkness.
Blender 3.4.1 is fine clear.
Seems to be difference between OpenGL and Metal. Can confirm.

@iss You are correct about OpenGL is clear within Blender 4.0
Metal is too darkness within Blender 4.0
Render within METAL and Cycles.
I am still wait for you to fix support METAL please because 1 eye is too black!
OpenGL I can see clear but METAL TTTTTTOOOOOOOO BBBBLLLLAAAACCCCCKKKKKK.
Because of Blender 3.6.1 both OpenGL and Metal also Blender 4.0 already remove OpenGL no more and stay METAL!
@Kent-Davis This marked as confirmed, will be fixed whan some eevee developed do this.
No that is not EEVEE no no. Only focus on Mac METAL and mac OpenGL.

There 2 different OpenGL -VS- Metal
OpenGL is perfect color and perfect light inside the Iris eye.
Metal mess up wrong color and too darkness.
Please fix everything on METAL for Mac Intel and M1, M2, and M3 thanks
