Short description of error
I have installed HIP, as
libamdhip64.so.5
andlibamdhip64.so
are both present in/opt/rocm/hip/lib
. This aligns with thehip_paths[]
array inhipew.c
./opt/rocm/bin/hipconfig --full
reports that my HIP version is5.6.31061-8c743ae5d
. Games and bench-marking utilities run well, so the card itself must be working. I've also built from source and tried the top two Daily Builds. It simply appears to not be detected.Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Menu Bar -> Edit -> Preferences -> System -> Cycles Render Devices -> HIP -> "No compatible GPUs found for Cycles"
Hi @EthanArns , since you are using your own build, please make sure that options
WITH_CYCLES_HIP_BINARAIES
andWITH_CYCLES_DEVICE_HIP
are both enabled.Edit: Have you also tried other driver packages from different sources too?
Yes, I tried multiple different sources, both when using precompiled and building with those options enabled. Looks like the one change to get it working was to run the binary with sudo. Everything else failed. What would cause the driver to not be recognized without root access? Other programs have access to it.
@EthanArns then you probably installed HIP binaraies in some directories that only sudo can access? I think just plain "make install" shouldn't cause any issue. Could you check with
ldconfig -p | grep libamdhip64
and see which one exactly are you using on your system? Maybe it's not the one you installed.Hi, any updates here?
I reinstalled my OS to the latest Linux Mint and installed the latest AMD driver just in case it was something due to that. New OS info from Blender:
System Information
Operating system: Linux-5.15.0-82-generic-x86_64-with-glibc2.35 64 Bits, X11 UI
Graphics card: AMD Radeon PRO W6800 (navi21, LLVM 16.0.3, DRM 3.53, 5.15.0-82-generic) AMD 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 23.2.0-devel
Same blender install, as I had it installed on a secondary auto-mounted hard drive. I tried the snap install of the same version in case it was due to being on a secondary drive, still got
HIP hipInit: Invalid device
when not running as root.As for @ChengduLittleA
ldconfig -p | grep libamdhip64
returns the following:Running it as sudo doesn't change the output.
@EthanArns Does this happen on unzipped blender from official download as well? It might be due to snap/package manager issue.
Yes. I started this first on an unzipped download of 3.6 LTS from the main Blender page. I only tried snap just now in case it was something to do with being on a separate hard drive.
amdgpu-install --usecase=hip
/amdgpu-install -y
may help in finding the GPU. Can you check?Does
rocminfo
command finds your card?Does this happen with proprietary drivers?
No activity for more than a week. As per the tracker policy we assume the issue is gone and can be closed.
Thanks again for the report. If the problem persists please open a new report with the required information.
