Short description of error
Blender daily build crashes immediately on launch. The blender start screen isn't shown at all, only a grey window which then immediately closes. The crash log indicates that it is a memory EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (see log file attached).
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
auto script execution
Original report
Start Blender through Steam, Blender Launcher, blender_debug_log.cmd, blender_debug_gpu.cmd, or blender_debug_gpu_glitchworkaround.cmd. A grey window opens with the Blender logo in the top bar. The window closes as Blender crashes.Crashing_4-0-0_daily.blend
Hi, please, attach
C:\Users\Aleksei\AppData\Local\Temp\blender.crash.txt
/I've attached the crash file to the initial issue post.
That's interesting trace. Do you have any interesting/unusual monitor setup? Can you check if running
blender_factory_startup.cmd
does help?Running blender_factory_startup.cmd did work.
My monitor setup isn't unusual I think, it's just dual monitor running off the GPU. The most unusual part I'd say is that because the GPU has 1 HDMI and 1 DisplayPort, one of the monitors is using a HDMI-to-DisplayPort cable to connect.
I saved the preferences in the factory startup version after setting the CUDA to my GPU then tried the 4.0.0 daily and it launched properly. I guess this can be closed unless you need more information.
Just to add some info. I got the crash to happen again. It occurs if I allow Blender to permanently allow execution of scripts in the pop-up on start. Blender seems fine if I press Allow every time, but if I select the check box then it starts the crashing issue. Is there any way to resolve the issue? I can click through the pop-up every time but it's a bit annoying to do so.
Can you upload .blend file with which this happens?
Here's a blank file which crashes when I open it in 4.0.0. It's a preference issue for me however. If I have auto-run scripts enabled Blender crashes on launch, before any files are opened. I don't even see the splash screen.
Thanks for file, I wasn't able to reproduce. Does this happen when you click on FIle > Defaults > Load Facory Settings with autorun enabled?
Eh sorry, I already asked that. Kinda... It would be nice to see, whether this is really only dependent on autorun option. Also clik on Help > Save System Info and upload saved file.
File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings works if script auto-run is enabled. I don't get the pop-up warning about executing python scripts either if I Load Factory Settings with script auto-run disabled, so it seems to be a Blender startup issue. Here's the system info file.
I must have misunderstood this report. You are probably right, that this is likely issue with startup file then. You can share startup file, it's in
C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\4.0\config\startup.blend
, just substiture User with your username. This start file can be customized, so the file alone may not provide actual cause of the issue though and we may need steps to break it. But if you can, please share it.I can confirm the crash.
@iss , rename
Crashing_4-0-0_daily.blend
and replace it with existing startup file. This will trigger the crash when launching the executable.Blender Daily Build Crashes Immediately on Startto Crash when auto script execution is enabledNot a regression really (2.93 fails too)
