Inputs:

  • Geometry
  • Value
  • Source Group ID (hide value)
  • Sample Group ID

Output:

  • Value (average of all matching IDs)
Inputs: - Geometry - Value - Source Group ID (hide value) - Sample Group ID Output: - Value (average of all matching IDs)

Here is Map node to solve such task for multiple keys (group-id's): #104621
With having Jagged Fields, Map node will be just kind of First Index of ID for regular int's and for multiple int's via jagged field.

Supporting lists as group IDs for these nodes seems like a nice future extension. At first though I think it would be better to keep things simple and only support a single integer group ID. The multi-input sockets are a bit confusing here-- lists are really the better solution.

Perhaps take some more inspiration from the Index map node (by Iliya) to output an index and could be using in conjunction with the sample index node.
This fits better with the geometry node design, just like sample nearest outputs an index.

(perhaps in the future we could also have one that is completely field bases, so no geometry input, that is used in conjunction with the evaluate at index node. - so only two ID inputs and an index output, and a domain property)

well I suppose if you think taking the average is a good design choice then go for it, but I think the way the index map node was setup (by Iliya) was a better design. (fits better with the way we sample in GN and more versatile, especially if you could use multiple IDs(multi socket))

That's reasonable, I like that idea too. That would mean we wouldn't be able to average multiple values though.

you could always average with accumulate field and sample from only one of the ID(first within or whatever), it's really easy.
