VSE: Separate Images (Y) is broken - It is only duplicating the first image to all the resulting strips #114434

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19045-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 511.65

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.6.2, branch: blender-v3.6-release, commit date: 2023-08-16 16:43, hash: e53e55951e7a
Worked: 3.5.1 (did not test between 3.5.1 and 3.6.2)

Short description of error
In the VSE, after importing an image sequence, the "Separate Images" operation (Y) is broken. New image strips are created, but all of the strips are replicas of the first image. Instead, they should all be different images.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce the issue]
[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

  1. Open the VSE
  2. Import an image sequence of 2 or more images.
  3. Select the image sequence strip in the sequencer and press Y (Separate Strips)
  4. Choose the frame length of the strip (I tested only with 25 frames) and press enter.

The result cuts the strip into multiple strips (the same number as images in the sequence), but only duplicates the first image to all the strips.

The result should instead cut the strip into multiple strips, with each strip representing all of the different images from the sequence.

During my testing, the error started between 3.5.1 and 3.6.2 and continues through the 4.0 Beta daily build on 11/02/2023.

Yes, seems so. I checked again in a build (hash: 444a42e71c7a) which includes the fix but problem persists there :)

@iss , since 3.6 is affected, I've added the bugfix in backporting list: #109399

I can confirm that the issue has been fixed in the daily build 4.0.0-beta+daily.abe925d0c671. Separate images works as expected. Thank you for such a quick fix!
