In material preview mode its so low FPS on Apple M2 Pro. #116153

System Information
Operating system: macOS 14.2 Sonoma
Graphics card: M2 Pro 19 core GPU

Blender Version
4.0, on 3.6 was it too

Short description of error
In solid mode its everything perfect, (its 80-120 fps), but in material preview mode its around 30 fps, and i just cant understand is it M2 Pro with 19 cores of GPU so weak, or its just a bug you can fix. There arent any super heavy objects on a scene (around 100k polys). Maybe its strange to compare, but my Windows desktop with RTX 3060TI just not feels like i've changed the viewport mode in this case.

Can you replicate the issue in the default Blender scene?

I just created a cube without any materials in material preview mode, and if i too close to this cube, its around 20 fps, but when i a little further its 50-60, and its doesn't matter how many polys are in this cube. I tried with 5k polys and 100k too, and just the same effect.

Hi, thanks for the report. Do you have high resolution monitor? Similar behavior has been observed here at: #114875

Also check with factory settings in case any add-on/script/preference setting is interfering: File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings

I use a default Macbook’s 4k retina monitor. I will inform you when i will load the factory settings and tell you about effect.

Did this issue still happen in earlier versions of macOS? (i.e. 13.0 and before)

I restored the factory settings and nothing happened, there are still lags

Thanks. Reducing window size to 1/2 or 1/4 may improve the performance (less pixels to render)
I'm closing this as duplicate of #114875 / #109989
