Inconsistent crashing on blender 4.0 #116693

System Information
Operating system: Linux-6.6.7-artix1-1-x86_64-with-glibc2.38 64 Bits, X11 UI
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 545.29.06

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.0.2, branch: makepkg (modified), commit date: 2023-12-05 07:41, hash: 9be62e85b727
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
I was following blender guru's newest donut tutorial and blender would randomly start crashing at unpredictable moments after finishing "part 8 - Rendering", Like right when I started modelling the plate in part 9 blender would start crashing, I really have no clue as to what the issue is, and can only speculate that it had to do with me switching to cycles from eevee or installing and using cuda for the renderer? but the crashes occur outside of the rendered view like on solid or wireframe, I have searched on the internet but the issue is really vague and can only use terms like "segfault" or "blender nvidia crash" I've found that maybe GPU subdivision is to blame, so i disabled it and currently will try to see it if it will crash without it or not.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
The crash has occured when Switching workspaces, activating wireframe mode or toggling xray, and just rendering for too long, but they're inconsistent, I have no way of consistently reproducing the crashes or knowing exactly what the crashes are other than just using blender normally.

Hi, thanks for the report. Possibly related to #100620, would be helpful if you verify it with and without GPU subdivision.
Current logs have missing function calls in stack-trace. But libcuda.so library is mentioned there which is related to NVIDIA drivers.
Crash during render is possibly due to bug in driver code: #114548

From what i've noticed, the crashing still occurs with nvidia gpu subdivision off, but it seems to only occur with 1 specific laptop of mine, i've been using blender on a completely different laptop with similar specs but with an older nvidia card and it never crashed and was very stable, the laptop that blender keeps crashing on has a slightly newer nvidia card, but the general theme is that the crashes happen when i do too many actions within a short period of time, with the already mentioned examples, i have found that when i undo too many steps quickly in sculpt mode (maybe undo in general too) that blender crashed as well.

@Penfold , can you try with newer NVIDIA drivers or do clean installation of drivers?: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/gpu/linux/nvidia.html
Since you're on laptop, launch blender on iGPU, see whether crash is replicable or not.
