System Information
Operating system: macOS-14.2.1-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: Metal API Intel(R) Iris(TM) Plus Graphics 1.2
Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.0.2, branch: blender-v4.0-release, commit date: 2023-12-05 07:41, hash:
9be62e85b727
Worked: 3.6.6-LTS
Short description of error
My 2020 Intel Mac Pro laptop laptop experienced a full system freeze and reboot during editing of a simple model.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
With model loaded (leadscrew.blend). Enter vertex edit mode in the workbench view. Navigate around the model and crash.
I loaded the blend file in version 3.6.6-LTS and was able to edit without any crash or unusual workbench render issues.
After completing the model in Blender 3.6.6-LTS (leadscrew1.blend), I loaded it in Blender 4.0.2 and same crash behaviour when navigating in vertex edit mode.
#115784 looks related
can you check in different shading modes?
The issue does not occur in the other shading modes, only solid shading has this issue.
Clicked the close button by mistake :-)
Thanks. This has been observed so far on intel processors (Also see #116928). Is it possibly to retrieve crash logs?: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/crash.html#macos
Have you verified the crash in 4.1 build?: https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/
Hi. Yes it is still an issue with the latest 4.1 Alpha (blender-4.1.0-alpha+main.c527056f0c05-darwin.x86_64-release). The crash behaviour is the same. I looked for a crash file but I couldn't find one. I did have to force-quit blender so it may not have written one.
Thanks. Could you launch blender from command line (with --debug argument), It may write some info in console about the freeze.
I ran Blender from a terminal with the --debug argument but it didn't produce any logs. The app just freezes. Sometimes it will crash the whole machine.
Thanks. This is mostly identical to #115784 / #116928 so I'll close this as duplicate.
