System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19045-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 551.23

Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.0.2, branch: blender-v4.0-release, commit date: 2023-12-05 07:41, hash: 9be62e85b727
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Lattice loses Vertex points when Parented to armature. seems to be specifically the armature modifier both doing the opposite visually as it should when switching modifiers Edit button and realtime display button, not only does it visually do the opposite turning edit verts off instead of on but even when visually off you can still edit the lattice points when they should be locked off.

Hi, thanks for report, can you please send example file?

here is an example scene with basic lattice attached to armature. even in a base default scene, the edit function does the
opposite of its intended purpose. you can still click the buttons to show the verts but, on is off and off is on.

Don't know if the vertices still being editable even when non viewable is intended or not, but it does cause problems when being unintentionally selected and adjusted.

Can you provide few more clear explanation, or maybe capture video example?

Can you provide few more clear explanation, or maybe capture video example?

Here is an Example of it Working as intended so you can see why im saying the modifier buttons are inverted and not locking off manipulation of verts in Comparison. The Armature Modifier Works as intended on A Mesh here are images of both on and off.
in the images on you can see the armature cage, off you cant see the armature cage.

This is NOT the case for the Lattice object with the armature modifier. when you turn Edit "ON" the visuals for editing Turn OFF, which i show in the images above. by comparing you can clearly see that the Function is Inverted. Not only that but for the Lattice when Edit is off "Visually" the Vertices can still be selected and moved around even though they should be ( Edit "OFF")

Another Error Concerning this came up as well Specifically stating ( Editmode lattice is not supported yet) error given when trying to simply change Vertex group stacked position. here is image.

Found 2 other issues concerning this same Edit button of the modifier and a Lattice,

  1. when i change vertex weight of the lattices vertices it doesnt always update when i hit the Edit button to see the result quickly so it looks like nothing changed, i have to exit into object mode to update the result then go back to edit mode and only then does it update the new vertex groups or weights to be seen when hitting the modifiers edit button.

  2. When i try switching the vertex group location in the list it doesnt change location it instead swaps the verts completely with the vertex group above or below it.

The more i do with Lattices i just keep finding more issues, it Seems Lattices systems have not been completed and have a bunch of bugs and other issues that needs to be addressed to the point of likely needing to be completely reworked considering how unintuitive the system of weighting and editing it alone without considering the bugs i keep running into. I will be putting in an additional feature request later after this bug report.

Another Error Concerning this came up as well ...

Found 2 other issues concerning this same Edit button of the modifier and a Lattice,

Please report these separately (it is just much clearer to have one issue per report)

Can confirm the original reported behavior/issue.

Quick first notes:

  • Display modifier in editmode still does (part of) what is intended right: it displays with the modifiers modifications in editmode (this wasnt even the case prior to 2.93 -- this changed between changed between e47f5cf1979d..074b0b6da0a4, so assume 3681a619de, 64538532d4, 952c4e41bb are related)
  • skips to display the original though (this is different from meshes)

Will check a bit further

Philipp Oeser changed title from Lattice loses Vertex points when Parented to armature. to Lattice with modifier (show in editmode enabled) does not show original editlattice 2024-03-15 14:50:48 +01:00

For some reason, we are missing the editlatt on the object to be drawn, so we only get the modifier (uneditable) COW version shown.

Now checking update_lattice_edit_mode_pointers / discard_lattice_edit_mode_pointers , but there might be others (@Sergey ? @dr.sybren ?) already having an idea what is going on...

Ah, spotted #95574 which is probably the same (so this probably a duplicate)

I commented in #95574 (and reworked the title a bit), so this one here really is a duplicate of #95574.

Will close this report, please subscribe in #95574 if you want further updates
