Short description of error
UV unwraping incorrect to protruding parts to cavities.
This happens when the Fill Holes option is enabled.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open attached .blend file
  • Select all.
  • press U and unwrap

Enable and disable 'Fill Holes' to compare.

I can confirm. The 'Fill Holes' option that apparently generates this issue.
This could be a side effect or some technical limitation of a feature that is advantageous in most cases.
But I'm not sure what 'Fill Holes' actually does.

The hole filling is only really designed to work with convex holes. It could be made to use the more advanced scanfill, though it also has a heuristic to keep good triangle shapes which is important here. So it's not a trivial switch.
