System Information:
Operating system: Windows 10 Pro
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M, intel(r) hd graphics 4000
Blender Version:
Broken: 4.2 (newest) July 1-20
Worked: 4.1 or 4.1.2, (I forgot)
Short Version of Error:
EEVEE: When in Eevee rendering, when I click material preview, blender crashes and in rendered view, but for some reason it works when I minimize the screen enough, it works but everything is SO SLOW
CYCLES: In Cycles rendering, when you click the material preview, it crashes but also works when minimized the window enough and is also SO VERY SLOW in material preview, but in rendered view it is surprisingly fast now, I like it but I still cannot go to material preview without complications.
BOTH: even in a simple project with just the default cube, the problem still happens the same way
REPLICATE STEPS:
EVEE:
CYCLES:
The file I put is is a screen recording of the issue

BLENDER CRASH: both Cycles and Eevee in material preview is an issue, and Eevee is issue with render viewto BLENDER 4.2 CRASH: both Cycles and Eevee in material preview is an issue, and Eevee is issue with render viewAre you running blender with the integrated (intel hd 4000 you said) gpu? That might explain why material preview is so slow and even crashes.
oh, so I have to use my CPU?
Please use
Help > Save System Info
and upload the system info file, and also crash logs instructions here.GT640M should be enough to run blender as it should support OpenGL 4.4 , could you try forcing blender to run in discrete graphics in your nvidia control panel and see if it works?
I deleted blender, and downloaded the newest version again, and the same problem happens, here is some new files.
I dont know what you mean by that on your last request
Did you ever figure this out? I have the same issue after updating to 4.2.
Never had a problem before.

Mac
3GHZ 8core Intel Xeon
64G of RAM
AMD Fire Pro D700 6G
@Branko-Pesich could you upload GPU debug logs as well?
@YimingWu Everything was solved after I updated my NVIDIA driver!
I figured out how to fix it on my windows PC, I updated my NVIDIA driver, Is there a way to update a Mac processor driver?
I fixed it by updating the driver, guys!
