Blender Version
Broken:
version: 2.80 (sub 44), branch: blender2.7, commit date: 2019-02-15 14:15, hash: faa255c0a4, type: Release

Worked: (optional)
Vertex Select, Face Select Worked as expected

Short description of error

In object "edit mode", (Edge Select) doesn't work properly. If edge select mode is on, the target edge doesn't select instead random edge gets selected. A 1 min video (I made) of the bug in action can be found here: https://youtu.be/qVmsE76ZF4I

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Go to Edit mode and try selecting 'edge select' mode, the targeted edge doesn't select, instead random edge gets selected. A .blend file is attached.

I can't reproduce the issue. Are your drivers up to date?

Can you test if this still happens in the newest Blender build?

Hi Jacques Lucke,

  1. Are your drivers up to date? - Yes, I am pretty sure the drivers are up to date. I am running mac version 10.13.6 with all latest updates from Apple.

  2. newest Blender build? - Yes, just downloaded and tested on my system and the issue still persists with the newest build.
    splash screen attached.

I assume this is still an issue?

I have been a little out of the loop in regards to hadware related bugs, @ZedDB , @fclem : does this ring a bell for you?

@lichtwerk there are many reported issues like this. All of them seem to be because of buggy/outdated drivers.
I don't think we have a ticket for selection issues like these (at least yet).

FYI edge selection works fine in transparent mode, in both wireframe and 'surfaced' mode. In non-transparent mode neither mode selects correctly, as per previous GIF.

I can't reproduce this with Intel Iris Graphics 6100 on macOS.

The 3 reports about this are all using an Intel HD 3000, so it's probably specific to that. Rather difficult to investigate since I'm not aware of any developer with this hardware available for testing.

@OookLout could you try with the newest builds if the issue persists?

Hello Adam
Sadly the edge-select is still incorrect, the same as in the video I submitted (above).
As before, in transparent(wireframe) view selection works fine.
Tested with latest as requested: V2.82(alpha) 2019-11-17

MacBook Pro late 2011 MacOS 10.13.6
My Win PC is fine with 2.80 release
{edit: the error is consistent, a simple XYZ transposition of the desired edge: ie click bottom left edge, RH edge gets highlighted; click LH edge, upper RH edge is highlighted.)

Well since HD 3000 is Sandybridge [and only Haswell and up are officially supported], I am afraid we have to close this report...

https://code.blender.org/2019/04/supported-gpus-in-blender-2-80/

This is our 'official' statement (sorry to say):

Thanks for the report. This GPU is below the minimum requirements for Blender, so we no longer provide support for it. https://www.blender.org/download/requirements/
Installing the latest graphics driver sometimes helps to make such GPUs work, see here for more information. https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/gpu/index.html
If that doesn't help, you can use Blender 2.79: https://www.blender.org/download/previous-versions/

FYI Update Feb 3 2021: Good news and bad...
Good`; Blender has been working fine on MacOs as of version 2.82 (Long Term Support version) (including edge select fixed). Sorry, should have reported this sooner...

Bad: As of version 2.91 (downloaded Feb 2 2021) there is a new (Unusability) problem in that right after startup, any dropdown menu opened has a triangular background fill behind each menu's text. Splash screen looked OK. I may report this separately but as it is on Intel HD 3000 it is not very interesting to devs, more to users.
I am not bothered because I can regress to 2.82 for now... :-)

FWIW 2.91 works pretty well on my new M1 MacBook Air :-) so I am happy
