Edge loop selection bug #64918

System Information
Operating system: Darwin-17.7.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: Intel HD Graphics 3000 OpenGL Engine Intel Inc. 3.3 INTEL-10.4.14

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 64), branch: blender2.7, commit date: 2019-05-13 22:40, hash: f070bdd7c9
Worked: 2.79

Short description of error
In 2.79 when you hold option and select near an edge, the loop that edge belongs to would be selected. In every version of 2.8 I've used, loop selection hasn't been nearly as intuitive. I'll try to loop select by clicking close to an edge included in the loop I want to select and an edge loop going perpendicular to the one intended is selected.

here's a video: edge-loop-bug.mov

Sometimes, an edge loop can't be selected at all: edge-loop-bug-2.mov

I've noticed that edge selection works pretty well for the primitive uv sphere (while still selecting loops perpendicular to the closest edge loop), but when edge loops are added and geometry is moved, it becomes more difficult.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Select object, go into edit mode, try selecting edge loops. It happens in both vertex and edge select mode.

Please try with today's build. Should be already fixed.

Yes, this is the selection issue that was in builds from around that date. If it's not fixed we can reopen the report.

Still the same for me with today's build.

Hello!
I notice today under windows and in blender versions 2.80, 2.90 and 2.91 that the Edge Loop Selection doesn't work anymore as expected and saw this report for linux. Is this issue known for windows as well?
I think it has something to do with windows, as I am sure I was using it as usual, until know.
My system:
i7 with GTX 1080Ti and Win10 with NVIDIA Studio Drivers and latest updates
I have one system installation (2.90.1) of blender and several portable versions.
2.91 I installed today as portable after noticing this bug in 2.90.1 and I did not load the settings file from 2.90.1 when it asked at first opening.
I still use Right-Click Select as well, but it also does not work, when I change to Left-Click Select.
Shift + Alt + Right Mouse Click only selects and deselects the same edge again and again no matter who fast I reclick.
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Daniel

// I just checked: every installed blender version including 2.79, 2.79b and up has the same issue apparently!
Edit: I also don't have "Emulate 3Button Mouse" enabled btw. ...
Edit 2: I've found out it in my case it only does not work for boundary loops and I found a possible workaround:
When I switch the keymapping to 2.7x settings it works on the boundary loops also as expected, but only when it doesn't build a face and only in 2.80 and above. Maybe this isn't a windows bug after all? What I can't explain, is why it doesn't work in 2.79 anymore, as is my status of now. Over and out! ;-)'
